Flash Website Templates: Historical Gallery (2013)

Free Flash Templates With Source
A historical gallery of Flash website templates from 2013 — portfolio, photographer, photo gallery and real estate designs built with ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0. An honest note: Adobe discontinued Flash at the end of 2020 and browsers have removed it, and the original download site for these templates is long gone — so none of the downloads below work anymore. Treat this as a design archive: a look at what animated web design looked like in the Flash era. If you need an animated website today, use modern HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't these Flash website templates work anymore?

Adobe ended Flash Player at the end of 2020 and browsers removed support for it, so SWF files no longer play on the modern web. The original download sites for many of these 2013 templates are also long gone. This post is kept as a design archive rather than a working download library.

What replaced Flash for animated websites?

Open web standards took over: HTML5, CSS and JavaScript now handle the animation and interactivity that once required the Flash plugin, working natively in every browser including phones. Adobe itself renamed Flash Professional to Animate CC, which exports animations to HTML5 canvas and WebGL instead of SWF files.

What was ActionScript?

ActionScript was Flash's scripting language, used to build the buttons, menus, video players and animated interactions inside Flash sites. Its syntax was similar to JavaScript, and version 3.0 introduced in the Adobe era was a full object-oriented language — skills that transferred naturally to modern web development.

Can I still view old Flash websites today?

In some cases, yes. The open-source Ruffle emulator can play many classic SWF files in a modern browser without the old Flash Player, and the Internet Archive hosts a large collection of preserved Flash content. Results vary by file, since complex ActionScript 3.0 sites emulate less reliably than simple animations.
