Frequently Asked Questions

What is gender bender fan art?

Gender bender art redraws a fictional character as the opposite gender. In anime fandom it is so common that fans call it "Rule 63": the idea that a genderswapped version of every popular character exists somewhere on the internet.

Why is Naruto such a popular subject for gender-bender art?

Naruto itself gives artists an excuse. In the series Naruto regularly uses the Oiroke no Jutsu, or "Sexy Technique", which transforms him into an attractive woman to distract opponents. That canon detail makes a female version of Naruto feel like a natural "what if" for fan artists.

Who is the artist Moni158?

The pieces in this gallery are by Moni158, a DeviantArt fan artist known for Naruto and Bleach artwork. Like many fan artists of that era, most of his work lives on his DeviantArt gallery rather than on a personal website.

Is it legal to sell Naruto fan art?

Selling fan art without permission is risky. Naruto is the copyrighted property of its creators and publishers, and any money made from unlicensed merchandise or prints can draw takedown notices or legal action. Drawing and sharing fan art for free is generally tolerated, but commercial use needs a license.
